Marla has earned her Bachelor's degree in Flute Performance at Arizona State University, under Dr. Trygve Peterson and Dr. Elizabeth Buck. She has been playing flute for over 24 years and has been teaching for over 11 years. She has performed with many ASU performance groups during her 5 years in the School of Music.
Marla has also performed with The Tempe Symphony Orchestra and at The National Flute Association's Flute Convention. She played extensively with a professional flute and guitar duo, Marazul, with internationally known composer and guitarist, Hector Martinez Morales. She currently performs with a flute duo, Les Flutes, which performs mostly at weddings and other venues.
Marla has been an active participant in Arizona Flute Society as a board member and conductor for the flute choirs. She also has judged AFS's Young Artist Competitions as well as ABODA Regional Band and Orchestra auditions. She is also a member of the National Flute Association.
Marla has performed abroad while on an orchestra tour in Germany and a band tour through 8 countries in Europe. She spent a semester in England studying flute at the University of Wolverhampton. She acquired knowledge and experience of the European style that she can pass down to her students.
Many of Marla's students throughout the years have auditioned and have been placed with Arizona's All-Region and All-State bands and orchestras. Her students have placed at the AFS's Young Artist Competition. A few of her very talented students have gone on to pursue flute at a university level.
Marla truly enjoys teaching and caters her lessons to each student's individual needs.
